The Best Hearing Aid Brands We Offer
Hearing & Audiology is an independent audiologist clinic. This means that we fit all the most reputable brands, and recommend hearing aids from all the major global manufacturers. In doing so, we bring the latest in hearing technology to West Australians, and give our clients a wide range of hearing aid options to choose from.
The hearing aids brands that we offer are: Unitron, Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, Signia, and Widex.
Each brand offers a range of hearing aid styles. The most appropriate style for you is dependent on your listening needs and your degree of hearing loss. This is where an Audiologist can guide you in your decision-making process to ensure you get the best hearing aid to suit your needs.

The Four Main Styles of Hearing Aids
1. Invisible Hearing Aids
There are three main types of invisible hearing aids: invisible-in-canal (IIC), completely-in-canal (CIC), and Lyric. These styles sit deep in the ear canal and are designed for discretion – only the wearer knows they are there. IIC devices are ‘set and forget’ – they rarely have any on-board push button or user controls, and this is to keep the device as small as possible. CIC devices are a little larger and will often contain a push-button to give the user some control. Certain CIC models have bluetooth which can be used to stream audio, and control the device settings using an app.
IIC and CIC models are custom made to fit the shape of the ear canal and provide maximum comfort. IIC and CIC hearing aids are designed for mild to severe hearing loss and are available in many skin tone colours.
Lyric is a little different to an IIC and CIC. Lyric is professionally fitted by an Audiologist, and stays in the ear 24/7 for months at a time. The device sits 4mm from the eardrum, making it 100% invisible. Lyric can be worn for daily activities like showering, exercising, and sleeping. Lyric is hassle-free and perfect for people with an active lifestyle. We are an authorised Lyric provider in Perth. You can find out more about Lyric here.
2. Receiver-in-Canal Hearing Aids
Receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids are small and discrete, and often lead the way in technology advancements. A portion sits behind the ear and is connected to a very small, unobtrusive wire which is inserted into the ear. These are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. The advantage of a RIC is that the ear canal is often left open – this keeps the sound very natural, and allows the ear to breathe well.
RIC hearing aids are available with rechargeable batteries, bluetooth connectivity, and waterproof options are also becoming more widely available.
3. Behind-the-Ear Hearing Aids
Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids contain a part that sits behind the ear which picks up and amplifies the sound, and a tube which delivers the sound into the ear. The part inside the ear can be a soft plastic dome, or a custom made mould, and this depends on the degree of hearing loss. BTE devices are larger in size and more robust, making them ideal for people who may have dexterity problems.
BTE devices are available for all degrees of hearing loss and are available in many different colours. They are available in rechargeable styles, and have bluetooth for direct connectivity to mobile phones and other accessories.
4. In-The-Ear Hearing or Custom Hearing Aids
In-the-ear (ITE) or in-the-canal (ITC) devices are custom made hearing devices that fit into the ear canal. The devices are available in different sizes, depending on the shape of the ear, the features selected, and the degree of hearing loss.
Custom hearing devices are designed for mild to severe hearing losses and are available in many colours to match skin tone. Certain custom devices are available with rechargeable batteries, and some models are available with bluetooth for connectivity to phones and other accessories.
Hearing Aid Accessories
Hearing aids are available with many different accessories to improve the user’s experience. The accessories available will depend on the style and brand of hearing aid chosen. New accessories are always being developed. Examples of hearing aid accessories include: remote controls to change volume, remove microphones to improve speech in noisy environments, and TV adaptors which stream the TV directly into hearing aids.
