Ear wax is naturally produced to protect and lubricate the ears. It acts as a self-cleaning mechanism against debris and foreign bodies in the ear. However, wax can become a problem if it cannot make its way out of the ear naturally. For some people, this is due to narrow or bendy ear canals, and for others, it is the result of increased wax production.
If your ears become completely blocked with wax, you may experience mild deafness, a feeling of fullness in your ears, ringing in your ears, or an earache. If you wear hearing aids, the wax build up can cause your hearing aids to whistle, or even stop working if they become blocked. If you are experiencing any of the mentioned symptoms, it is recommended that you visit us to have the wax removed.
At Hearing & Audiology, we are trained in using micro-suction and manual extraction to safely and effectively remove ear wax. During your consultation, we will educate you on how to best manage your ear wax to maintain good ear health.
